The Kona Marathon & Family Fun Runs marathon course is an out and back along the coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. The start is located .2 Miles from the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort on Alii Drive. The course begins heading north on Alii Drive through Kailua-Kona town and up to the intersection of Alii Drive and Kuakini Hwy. The course then turns left on Kuakini Hwy out to 'The Old Airport' (a real airport made into a park after Keahole Airport was built). The course then jogs right up Makala Road and then left onto Queen Kaahumanu Highway. Two miles down the 'Natural Energy Lab Road', the turn comes at 13.0 miles into the race. The course then doubles back for 13.2 miles again to the finish at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort. There is a GU Energy Gel Aid Station located at the 10.5 and 15.5 mile marks on the course. Race cutoff is 9 hours after start (2:30 pm).
The 1/2 Marathon, 10K, and 5K courses run along scenic Alii Drive on the shoreline of the Kona Coast offering beautiful views of the ocean and lush Hawaiian rain forests and finish at the Keauhou Beach Resort.
